Alumni Spotlight: Wen-Hao Lue '09

Wen-Hao Lue studied Software Engineering at University of Waterloo and graduated in 2014. During university he created Mantaphrase, a phrasebook app for travellers, and Mixbox, an interactive remixing app for iPad. He won pitch and business competition awards such as the Norman Esch Entrepreneurship Award and Velocity Demo Day Awards for Mixbox and Mantaphrase. Wen-Hao has worked at various companies and start-ups in Silicon Valley such as Twitter, Square and Glooko as a software engineer. At Twitter, he worked on big data engineering problems using Hadoop, MapReduce, and real-time data processing algorithms for the product Twitter Headlines. At Square he developed product on iOS and released an open-source debugging tool called PonyDebugger. Wen-Hao is currently the co-founder and CTO of Sesame, a Toronto-based start-up that helps teachers give better feedback to students. Sesame has customers all around the world, as well as Canadian schools and colleges such as Niagara College, Kingsway College, and Calgary Arts Academy. Sesame has raised venture capital from investors and accelerators such as Y Combinator/Imagine K12 and The Next 36.
