Did you know that some countries around the world lack the healthcare resources and education needed to live long and happy lives? Underdeveloped countries all over the world don’t have access to everyday essentials such as food, clean water, toothbrushes, and transportation. MedLife is a nonprofit organization that helps underdeveloped Latin American countries in healthcare education and development. By becoming a member of the MedLife chapter at Bayview Glen, you will be able to take part in an organization that works to improve global health equity. Our goal for the near future is to take part in a Service Learning Trip where members of the Medlife group will travel to Latin American countries such as Peru, Costa Rica and Ecuador in order to have a hands-on experience in healthcare and medicine. We are looking for passionate members who will help organize events, volunteer, be active on social media, and take part in fun challenges to help fundraise. By joining MedLife you will make long-lasting connections and unforgettable memories.

At Model United Nations (MUN/Model UN), students take on the role of a country, organization, or individual and collaborate with other delegates from across the world to find a solution to a problem. Delegates will engage in animated and dynamic debates and discussions to reach their final goals. Conferences consist of several committees, each with a unique a subject matter. The goal of Model UN is to engage students and help them gain a deeper grasp of global challenges, as well as to improve public speaking, writing, and collaboration skills. Speak, debate, lead!

Each issue is published on the school’s website, and the final edition, titled Retrospective, is printed to commemorate and celebrate the end of the year.
Co-curriculars
Opportunities abound for our students in all areas. The purpose of the co-curricular programme in the Prep is to provide venues for students to explore interests, talents and experiences outside the classroom that can lead to a better understanding of themselves as learners and members of the community. We offer many different choices for the students from athletic to academic challenges. All students are encouraged to participate, and many of our clubs have come directly from suggestions made by our students.
Gryphons Athletics
Our varied programmes provide unlimited opportunities for the aspiring athlete. The School mascot, the mighty Gryphon – representing speed and majesty with its body of a lion and head of an eagle – symbolizes the combining of intelligence with strength and a positive attitude. Please visit the Athletics section for more information.
Gryphon Athletics, our sports programme, has developed into one of the most successful of its kind amongst our competitive schools. Our students compete at high levels in many sports including volleyball, soccer, basketball, swimming, tennis, and track and field. As a co-educational school, we ensure that there are equal opportunities for males and females alike. Over 90% of our Prep School students participate in at least one sport per year. While the stress is on participation, our student athletes are also very successful thanks to the wonderful support of their parents and fellow students.
Technology
The 21st Century is an era of learning how to use technology in deeper and more meaningful ways. Our students have embraced this in very powerful ways. Our Robotics teams have won national and international recognition; competing at the global competitions four years running. Bayview Glen hosts the Annual CIS Ontario TechnoCup West Point Bridge Building Competition and has placed in the top two teams for the past few years. Technology is not simply about using computers, it is about using the technology we have at hand to solve the problems of today and tomorrow.

Bayview Glen Robotics Teams Finished Top 5 at 2014-2015 FLL Ontario East Provincial Championships
On January 17, three Bayview Glen Robotics teams competed at the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Ontario East Provincial Championships at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology. Teams Ctrl-Z, Gryphonbots, and Robotics Elite Designers (RED) all represented our school proudly.
After successfully competing at the regional tournaments, these teams spent the last month refining their research projects and robots, while promoting the core values of the FIRST LEGO League. Their hard work was rewarded when all three teams won major awards, and finished in the top 5 out of the 40 other teams that competed in the FLL Ontario East Provincial Championships.
- Team Ctrl-Z won the 1st place Champions Award and is advancing to the FIRST International Championship in St. Louis this April.
- Team Gryphonbots also won a Champions Award, finishing 3rd overall.
- Team RED finished 5th overall, claiming the Innovative Solution Award for their project on autism.
Bayview Glen was the only school in the province who had three teams qualify for the FLL Provincials.
All students were overjoyed with the results. The teams surpassed previous records. Both the Gryphonbots and Ctrl-Z designed robots that made the Robotics Games playoffs, finishing within the top 4 of all robot scores. Ctrl-Z was one of two teams selected to model their research presentation in front of hundreds of spectators, and the rookie team RED surpassed their own expectations in the Robotics Games portion of the competition. Bayview Glen is very proud.
Highlights along this season’s journey were consulting with many professionals, developing valuable presentation skills, demonstrating innovative solutions and complex programming on a live CTV news telecastto over 100,000 viewers, and of course having fun building robots.

Lower School Choirs
Vocal Music at Bayview Glen emphasizes learning through the joy of making music. Children are natural musicians, and music enables them to express themselves through singing, playing instruments, playing musical games, dancing and dramatizing. It is intended to help students develop an understanding and an appreciation of music, as well as practical skills, so that they will be able to find in music a lifelong source of enjoyment and personal satisfaction. Since music making is such an integral part of life at Bayview Glen, the programme also offers all children an opportunity to further develop their vocal technique through choral experiences.
- Grade 2 and Primary Choirs: Students in Grade 2 are all members of the Grade 2 Choir and will learn the basic skills and tasks involved in a choral ensemble. Students in Grade 3 are welcome to volunteer to participate in the Primary Choir. This group continues to learn the fundamentals of choral singing and both groups perform at the Holiday Concert, Spring Concert and Assemblies. These choirs each rehearse for 20 minutes, every other day, with rehearsal time built into the school day schedule.
- Junior Choir: Students in Grades 4 and 5 are invited to participate in the Junior Choir. They perform at our Holiday Concert, Spring Concert and various assemblies. Some students will be selected to perform at the Conference of Independent Schools’ Music Festival (CISMF) at Roy Thomson Hall in April.
