Alumni Spotlight: Christopher Flora '04
After graduating from Bayview Glen in 2004, Christopher Flora entered into the Computer Engineering co-operative programme at the University of Waterloo. Christopher was exposed to a variety of work opportunities that helped shape both his academic and career decisions. The co-op programme was invaluable to him and allowed him to work in a variety of different industries ranging from Financial Institutions to start-up companies in Silicon Valley. After completing his degree, Christopher started his professional career at the Bank of Montreal in the compliance and technology department, dealing primarily with regulatory issues and data loss prevention. He recently changed jobs and moved to CIBC within the Enterprise Data Technology group. It is a particularly exciting group to be a part of with the culture being more start-up like and innovative compared to other departments within the Bank. The role is comprised of both strategic and development components, but, unlike the traditional FI technologies and groups, it leverages a new, innovative stack – node.js, angular, mongo, d3, elastic search, to name a few. Christopher is sure that as he progresses through his career, there will be other opportunities he will pursue and companies he will work at – regardless, he hopes to never stop learning and growing and is excited for what the future will bring.
