Alumni Spotlight: Greg Church '91
Greg Church started at Bayview Glen in Grade 6, along with his younger brother Geoff, as his step-grandmother was affiliated with the school. BVG life for Greg consisted of moving from the valley to the current Upper School, ski trips to various countries, experiencing a wide variety of sports, spending time in the computer lab, being a Prefect, winning art and citizenship awards and many fond memories.
Involved in construction from the young age of 15 and working in the maintenance department of BVG with Roger and Michele for four summers, developed an interest in Greg for design/build. After graduating from BVG in 1991, Greg attended York University’s Fine Arts programme for one year before applying to and graduating from OCAD’s Environmental Design programme. It was here that Greg learned design theory, material and technology and how to transform conceptual ideas into spatial realities.
Greg decided to follow in his parents’ entrepreneurial footsteps once graduating from OCAD with his degree and created his own design/build company, Domain Design Inc. Since 1996, Domain Design Inc. has grown exponentially, along with Greg’s practical and business skills, and has a healthy portfolio including both high-end residential and commercial projects.
Greg attributes the guidance and reassurance that he received from his BVG teachers to his current successes. For over 10 years, Greg has been a Scouts Canada Leader working with and teaching youth of all ages, practical life and outdoor skills. Now Greg is continuing his passion for guiding youth by joining the BVG Mentorship Program to help students who are considering careers in the trades, or architectural design.
BVG has provided Greg with lifelong friendships and the Alumni Association continues to foster a deep connection to the school despite it being 27 years since he graduated.
