On Tuesday, October 26, we were pleased to host our first virtual Career Breakfast for this school year via Microsoft Teams to explore a day in the life in Law with two of our Bayview Glen alumni, Ashley McKenzie ’05 and Andrew Jerjian ’06.
We are grateful to Ashley and Andrew for sharing with us all the many facets of the lawyer profession including learning about the difference between a barrister and a solicitor and how the work that you do are similar yet so different. Ashley walked through her journey from originally studying sciences to studying law with the help of several mentors she had while at the University of Toronto. Through her summer internships she was exposed to a plethora of experiences from a police ride along one Saturday night in Toronto to fly-in court in Kenora and many more in between. Andrew studied Law in the UK since it is a programme only offered at the post-graduate level in Canada and as a result of taking the Canadian and International Law course, taught by Mr. Chapman, he decided he wanted to enter directly into the legal discipline. After studying at Cornell University and the University of Oxford, and working at some of the top British law firms globally, he has moved back to Toronto to continue specializing in the energy and infrastructure sectors in North America. He explained how he has worked in different sub sectors like wind, solar and transportation, advising on the development and financing of these projects. If you can think of an activity, there is a field of Law for it!
The next Career Breakfasts are scheduled for Tuesday, December 7, 2021 and Tuesday, March 1, 2022 at 8:00 a.m. online via Microsoft Teams. Please stay tuned for more details.
