As you are aware, there has been a lot of controversy around the March Break and on Thursday, February 11th the Minister of Education Stephen Lecce in consultation with the Chief Medical Officer and Minister of Health announced that March Break would be moved to April 12th.
Bayview Glen has always supported the directives of the Ministry of Education and the Medical Health Experts for the Province and City of Toronto in an effort to keep everyone safe. As you know, recommendations evolve as new evidence is gathered. Of particular concern are the new variants which have been reported in recent weeks and therefore the change to our March Break dates is to accommodate this new information.
We realize the importance of this break for both students, faculty and staff. A chance for them to rest and recharge to finish the year strong is necessary for their overall well-being. After much consideration, Bayview Glen’s March Break dates, therefore, will begin on Monday, April 12th and end on Friday, April 23rd. We will also have a weekend break on March 5th, 6th and 7th.
There are benefits to an April Break, as the weather will be better and there will be more opportunities for the students to hopefully get outside. With the current restrictions on non-essential travel, this will be a valuable benefit.
Please remember also that our “March Break Camp” will run from April 12 – 23. I realize that this change may be disruptive for parents who have booked time off to align with our original dates so perhaps the “April Break Camp” would be a helpful consideration.
Thank you for your flexibility, support and positive attitude dealing with these unexpected twists and turns to the school year. Our students will learn a lot from us about adapting to change and making the best of every situation.
Thanking you in advance.
