General Information

Private Music Lessons are available to students in Grade 1-12, whose musical knowledge is at the beginner or advanced level.

Each week, students enrolled will receive a private half hour lesson on the instrument of their choice either before or after school. All instructors are highly qualified musicians from the community and will each determine, through consultation with parents, the needs, and goals for each child. Royal Conservatory of Music examination preparation is also an option available. This Programme is based on the full year and does not run on a term-by-term basis.

Students may choose from the following instruments:

Grade 1-5

  • Voice
  • Piano
  • Guitar/ukulele

Grade 6-12:

  • Voice
  • Piano
  • Guitar/ukulele
  • Percussion
  • Brass (tuba, baritone, trombone, trumpet, French horn)
  • Woodwinds (saxophone, clarinet, flute, oboe)
  • Theory/Composition
  • Strings (violin)

All students will be responsible for providing their own instruments. All students will also be responsible for the purchase of music books and sheet music that may be assigned by the instructor. It is also recommended that piano students have piano or full-sized keyboard at home for practice.

Students will be assigned a half-hour time slot between 3:00 and 6:00 p.m. Students must also enroll in the After School Programme (Grades SK-8 only) if their lesson begins later than 4:15 p.m. on the day of their music lessons, to ensure they are fully supervised before and after their lessons.

Current students of the Lessons Programme:

Students who are registered and participated in private lessons during the 2019-2020 school year are considered current students. As of this year, these students will be required to pre-register from June 1-15 to secure a spot in their teacher’s studio for the 2020-21 school year.

On Monday, August 17, pre-registered students will need to complete a “Preferred Lesson Form” which gives the option to select preferred date and lesson times. This must be completed by Monday, August 24st.  Please note that there are no guarantees and the Coordinator will accommodate as many requests as possible.

New students to the Lessons Programme:

New students will be accepted to the Programme based on availability. On August 31st, the registration portal will be open at the top of this page. Registration form and fee payment must be completed to be considered. If your child cannot be scheduled, you will be placed on the waitlist.
