Thursday, November 1, 2018

On Tuesday, October 2, we were pleased to host the first Career Breakfast of this school year in the Learning Commons to explore a day in the life of Media and Entertainment with two of our triumphant Bayview Glen alumni, James Finlay ’06 and Ruby Benson ’09

Both James and Ruby shared with the students and parents about their exciting journeys, tips and recommendations for our younger generations to find success. In the career paths of both James and Ruby, they highlighted the need to find passion in their work. It was this passion that guided and motivated them to locate niche markets to express their authenticity. Both are currently in fields that were not in existence when they were in school, but the skills they learned at Bayview Glen and beyond, contributed to their continued success.

The next Career Breakfasts are scheduled for Tuesday, December 4, 2018 and Tuesday, March 5, 2019 at 7:30 a.m. in the Learning Commons at our Moatfield Campus. We will explore the career possibilities in the Business industry at our next Career Breakfast. Please stay tuned for more details.

Summer 2018 Highlights: New Co-operative Education Programme with BVG Alumni and Current Students

Date:
Friday, September 7, 2018

On June 25, 2018, we started our inaugural Bayview Glen Co-operative Education Programme. This programme starts with in-class sessions where students learn and discuss workplace culture from job readiness to confidentiality to legislation, such as human rights and employment rights and responsibilities, all in preparation for the community component, 'the placement'. Bayview Glen makes great effort to find placements that are aligned with students strengths, interests and career goals to facilitate not only personal growth through reflective learning, but more importantly, experiential learning through immersion and hands-on learning.

With such a supportive alumni network, it is no wonder two students in particular, were placed with our very own BVG alumni – Zacharia Burrafato and Kattreen Hanna – both in the graduating class of 2019. Dr. Shahzad Qureshi ’93, Chief of Internal Medicine, volunteered to take Zacharia Burrafato under his wing and observe both his work in the ER as well as floor visits at Southlake Regional Health Centre. Jenise Chen ’09, Researcher, was excited to take Kattreen Hanna to her research lab at the Leslie Dan Faculty of Pharmacy at the University of Toronto to prepare and perform experiments regarding her research with bionanotechnology. Both of these placements have been invaluable experiences for these students. Our most sincere appreciation to Dr. Shahzad Qureshi and Jenise Chen for all their contributions.
