Our varied programmes provide unlimited opportunities for the aspiring athlete. The School mascot, the mighty Gryphon – representing speed and majesty with its body of a lion and head of an eagle – symbolizes the combining of intelligence with strength and a positive attitude. Technology
Bayview Glen Robotics Teams Finished Top 5 at 2014-2015 FLL Ontario East Provincial Championships
On January 17, three Bayview Glen Robotics teams competed at the FIRST LEGO League (FLL) Ontario East Provincial Championships at the University of Ontario Institute of Technology. Teams Ctrl-Z, Gryphonbots, and Robotics Elite Designers (RED) all represented our school proudly.
After successfully competing at the regional tournaments, these teams spent the last month refining their research projects and robots, while promoting the core values of the FIRST LEGO League. Their hard work was rewarded when all three teams won major awards, and finished in the top 5 out of the 40 other teams that competed in the FLL Ontario East Provincial Championships.
- Team Ctrl-Z won the 1st place Champions Award and is advancing to the FIRST International Championship in St. Louis this April.
- Team Gryphonbots also won a Champions Award, finishing 3rd overall.
- Team RED finished 5th overall, claiming the Innovative Solution Award for their project on autism.
Bayview Glen was the only school in the province who had three teams qualify for the FLL Provincials.
All students were overjoyed with the results. The teams surpassed previous records. Both the Gryphonbots and Ctrl-Z designed robots that made the Robotics Games playoffs, finishing within the top 4 of all robot scores. Ctrl-Z was one of two teams selected to model their research presentation in front of hundreds of spectators, and the rookie team RED surpassed their own expectations in the Robotics Games portion of the competition. Bayview Glen is very proud.
Highlights along this season’s journey were consulting with many professionals, developing valuable presentation skills, demonstrating innovative solutions and complex programming on a live CTV news telecastto over 100,000 viewers, and of course having fun building robots.
Lower School Clubs
Our commitment to excellence does not end at the close of the academic day. Students are invited to join special interest clubs, from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m., designed to enrich and challenge them.

Lower School Choirs
Vocal Music at Bayview Glen emphasizes learning through the joy of making music. Children are natural musicians, and music enables them to express themselves through singing, playing instruments, playing musical games, dancing and dramatizing. It is intended to help students develop an understanding and an appreciation of music, as well as practical skills, so that they will be able to find in music a lifelong source of enjoyment and personal satisfaction. Since music making is such an integral part of life at Bayview Glen, the programme also offers all children an opportunity to further develop their vocal technique through choral experiences.
- Grade 2 and Primary Choirs: Students in Grade 2 are all members of the Grade 2 Choir and will learn the basic skills and tasks involved in a choral ensemble. Students in Grade 3 are welcome to volunteer to participate in the Primary Choir. This group continues to learn the fundamentals of choral singing and both groups perform at the Holiday Concert, Spring Concert and Assemblies. These choirs each rehearse for 20 minutes, every other day, with rehearsal time built into the school day schedule.
- Junior Choir: Students in Grades 4 and 5 are invited to participate in the Junior Choir. They perform at our Holiday Concert, Spring Concert and various assemblies. Some students will be selected to perform at the Conference of Independent Schools’ Music Festival (CISMF) at Roy Thomson Hall in April. The Junior Choir rehearses on even days from 8:25 a.m. to 9:00 a.m.
