Outdoor Education and Global Experiences

The World Is Our Classroom.

Outdoor Adventuring and Leadership Trips

At Bayview Glen, we believe in the power of experiential learning to foster critical personal development during adolescence. Developing the whole child requires stepping beyond the walls of the classroom and into nature. Our intentionally designed three-year Adventure and Leadership Trips develop the belief in oneself to take risks and the resilience it requires to push out of one’s comfort zone. In doing so, students develop important personal character strength, leadership skills, and core memories that deeply enrich their education and lives.

These trips are a requirement for the Bayview Glen Diploma.

Global Travel Experiences and Round Square

Upper School students have the unique privilege to participate in Round Square conferences at schools across the world. Students learn about other cultures, expand their perspectives beyond our school and city, and develop the empathy, curiosity, and confidence they need to dream big and be tomorrow’s change-making leaders.

In addition to conferences, the IDEALS (Internationalism, Democracy, Environmentalism, Adventure, Leadership, Service) Global Experiential Learning programme is a signature experience for Upper School students. Travelling to countries around the globe, the interdisciplinary curriculum connections of the Round Square-inspired IDEALS programme bridge classroom learning to applications in the broader world.

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award

The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award encourages participants to challenge themselves in the following areas: Service; Skill Development; Physical Recreation; Adventurous Journey and Residential Project (Gold level only).

There are three levels to The Award: Bronze, Silver and Gold. A participant can progress through each level or enroll directly in either the Silver (15 years and up) or the Gold (16 years and up). Each level requires an increasing level of commitment and effort. Participants have until their 25th birthday to complete The Award.

At Bayview Glen, The Duke of Edinburgh’s International Award aligns with our core values of Respect, Responsibility, Compassion, Integrity, Balance, and Equity. Our students find a variety of unique ways to contribute to the community, experience the outdoors and encounter new activities.
