Athletic Mission Statement

  • to offer the necessary experience required to build confidence towards pursuing a healthy active lifestyle

All students from Grades 3 to 12 are encouraged to try out and participate Gryphon teams. Participation is at least one sport per year is mandatory in grades 3 – 5, and is strongly encouraged in the Prep and Upper Schools. Our varied programmes provide unlimited opportunities for the aspiring athlete. The School mascot, the mighty Gryphon – representing speed and majesty with its body of a lion and head of an eagle – symbolizes the combining of intelligence with strength and a positive attitude. At Bayview Glen we have a positive, spirited, high-energy, competitive athletic team environment. We teach and coach our students to uphold the values of athletic integrity, hard work, team comradery, dedication and commitment.

Student athletes in Grades 3 to 6 are instructed on the fundamentals of the sport and compete with the “fair play” model of sport development. This ensures all players are given equal playing time at the young age. Playing time will vary for students from Grades 7 through 12, who are given more intricate plays and are taught to be more competitive. Athletes are coached competitively and coaches will determine game line ups based upon the needs of each individual game.

Here’s how to get involved

  • Registration for team tryouts will be posted on the school website approximately 1 month prior to the start of the season. Parents are asked to register their child for the team they wish to try out for prior to the first tryout.
  • The tryout, practice and game schedules will be posted on the website, under Gryphons Athletics.

Note for Parents: Mandatory Uniform Windsuit

All team members will be required to have a windsuit. The windsuit completes the professional look of the school’s players as they represent Bayview Glen. The windsuits may also be worn as part of the Physical Education uniform. The windsuit is mandatory attire for each and every member of the squad to wear for contests whether home or away. You may pre-order your child’s windsuit through the Shops in advance at 416.443.1030.

Sports Teams

Our Gryphons athletes compete at many different levels in the Conference of Independent Schools’ Athletic Association (CISAA), a group of independent schools across Ontario, from St. Catharine’s to Rousseau Lake to Belleville. There are three athletic terms and students may compete on one team per term. Fall Term runs from the start of the school year to the beginning of November; Winter Term, from the November Mid-term Break to the beginning of March Break; and Spring Term, from the end of March to the end of May.
