Message from the Bayview Glen
Alumni Association Board

imageSome of you may not realize that Mrs. Daunt and I started at Bayview Glen in the same year, 1976. We probably do not remember it from the same perspective though, as I was in Preschool and she was a new teacher. But we both can confidently say Bayview Glen has informed our thinking and it could be said to be 'in our blood'.

I know for me, Bayview Glen has been my school as well as my workplace for many, many years. I am a parent of two Bayview Glen alumni and my best friends are also graduates. I have memories of Mrs. Hopkins and her poodles as well as our original school mascot. I took part in the voting for our current amazing Gryphon. I learned to ski with the Bayview Glen Physical Education programme and travelled to Ottawa, Montreal and Québec City many times with our outdoor education programmes. I have fantastic memories of school plays and musical performances and have delightful tales from school reunions and staff celebrations.

What's wonderful about the past, present and future of Bayview Glen is our adherence to tradition and our zeal for growth as we look forward to the completion of the new Lower School building. I have had the opportunity to meet many great students and families over my years here. I even have the pleasure of working with colleagues who are my former students.

As Mrs. Daunt approaches her retirement, the Alumni Association calls on each of you to share your stories, gratitude and memories of the last 60 years with us. Please submit your notes in writing or send us your short videos via email to alumni@bayviewglen.ca.

Wishing everyone a safe and happy holiday season!

Eileen Daunt Bursary Fund

A Message from Yafa Sakkejha, Bayview Glen Alumni Class of 2003

image

Our kids' education has never been more important, given how so many have fallen behind during the pandemic. My family and I have been proud to donate what we can to create scholarship opportunities for students at Bayview Glen.

I encourage all my fellow Bayview Glen alumni to pledge $10/month or more to the new Eileen Daunt Bursary Fund, in honour of Mrs. Daunt's retirement this coming year. That's two lattes a month to change a kid's life.

Mrs. Daunt was my Grade 1 teacher and truly changed the course of my life. Her approach to education was extremely progressive and she was able to influence many to reach higher using just positive strategies, and not using fear of penalties or consequences.

I remember vividly being six years old, having her walking our class through what's now the Lower School, and telling every passerby that her class is "the best in the entire school". That was meaningful for me. I felt proud, and knew she truly felt that way. But - we were the best because we had her as our teacher.

Thank you, Mrs. Eileen Daunt, for your tremendous career!

Yafa Sakkejha '03

Bayview Glen is a registered charity (#890138779RR0001) and will provide a tax receipt for your donation.
