If your child cannot be scheduled at this time, they will be placed on the waitlist and you will be notified should an opening become available.

General Information

Private Music Lessons are available to students in Grades 1 to 12 at all ability levels. Each week, enrolled students will receive a private half-hour lesson on the instrument of their choice before or after school. All instructors are highly qualified musicians from the community and will determine, through consultation with parents, the needs and goals of each child. Royal Conservatory of Music examination preparation is also an available option. This Programme is based on a full year commitment and does not run on a term-by-term basis.

Students may choose from the following instruments:

Grades 1 to 5

  • Voice
  • Piano
  • Guitar/ukulele

Grades 6 to 12:

  • Voice
  • Piano
  • Guitar/ukulele
  • Percussion
  • Brass (tuba, baritone, trombone, trumpet, French horn)
  • Woodwinds (saxophone, clarinet, flute, oboe)

All students will be responsible for providing their own instruments and for the purchase of music books and sheet music that may be assigned by the instructor. It is also recommended that piano students have a piano or full-sized keyboard at home for practice.

Schedules and instructors will be assigned to each student once they are officially registered. Once lessons have begun, all scheduling concerns should be directed to the Private Instructor.

Please Note: Enrolled students in the programme are expected to attend their music lessons regularly. You will be expected to provide at least 48 hours notice if your child cannot attend their lesson and contact the Private Instructor directly. If your child is missing lessons on a regular basis, a meeting will be arranged between the Coordinator, Private Instructor and Parent(s). A maximum of TWO lessons per term may be missed.

A handbook of procedures, including pick-up, missed lessons, holidays, parking, etc., will be provided at the beginning of the school year. The Private Music Lessons Programme observes all Bayview Glen safety practices and procedures.

All administrative questions may be directed to Alana Scharfstein, Private Music Lessons Coordinator, at lessons@bayviewglen.ca.
